What to expect
Before your first appointment
1. If you wish to claim your treatment costs on your health insurance, you will need to contact your insurance company directly prior to your appointment. Each insurance policy is different and we advise you to ensure in advance that your treatment is covered. It is also important to check whether you need to be referred by a doctor or a consultant before receiving treatment. You will need to bring your claim number and insurance company details to your first appointment. At jsphysio we bill your insurance company directly, so there is no direct cost to you unless you are required to pay an excess.
2. At jsphysio we think it is important to fully understand the nature of your problem so that we can treat you most effectively. This means that your physiotherapist will take a careful history to determine the exact nature of your problem. It is therefore helpful to have had a few thoughts such as what symptoms you get, when you get them and what can make them better or worse.
3. Make sure you have any relevant scans, reports and referral letters from your GP or Consultant, with you.
At your first appointment
We kindly ask that you arrive at least 5 minutes before your appointment time in order that you can fill out a brief patient registration form. If you would like to fill this in before you arrive you can print off a patient registration form new patient form.pdf.
You will then be assessed to work out what is causing your pain or problem and more importantly why. To do this properly we usually need to see the parts of the body involved. We therefore advise you to wear appropriate clothing (details can be found in the FAQ section). After your assessment, your problem will be fully explained to you and an appropriate treatment plan will be discussed.
Normally treatment will also be started at this initial session.
This assessment will usually take about 45 minutes.
